Attending the 2-day Basic course provides you with a greater understanding of dementia in general and how it specifically impacts adults with an intellectual disability

This is an evidence-informed workshop with the most up to date information available on the topic of dementia and it’s impact on adults with an intellectual disability.  It covers the basic concepts of support including aging and healthy aging, understanding dementia and how it impacts adults with an intellectual disability, early detection and screening and responsive behaviours and non-pharmacological approaches.

What to Expect from Basic Training

Yes it’s important to be present for the full two days as the information is organized in a manner that builds upon what is presented earlier and even missing one of the segments diminishes the learning.

Completion of the two day basic course does not make you eligible to train other staff but you are certainly free to share what you have learned in an informal manner.

No you will not be asked to pass a test but in order to receive a certificate of participation you will be required to complete a course evaluation.
